General election 2024: Labour’s Sir Keir Starmer refuses to commit to unfreezing tax thresholds

Sir Keir Starmer has told Sky’s Beth Rigby he won’t commit to tax promises the party can’t keep.

Speaking after Rishi Sunak said a general election could be called in the second half of the year, Sir Keir refused to back unfreezing tax thresholds or cutting taxes.

But the Labour leader was firmer on inheritance tax.

He said Labour would reverse any changes introduced by the Tories that “further tax cuts for those that are very wealthy”.
