A ceremony has been held at the former Auschwitz death camp to mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Nazi Germany murdered an estimated six million Jews during World War 2 in a genocidal campaign that also targeted Romani, homosexuals, people with disabilities and political opponents. Auschwitz, in occupied Poland, was the centerpiece of the Holocaust. But some people survived – and were able to take part in today’s commemorations, 79 years later.
