Northern Ireland: PM Rishi Sunak downplays chances of Irish unity referendum

Stormont should focus on “day-to-day” issues rather than a vote to unify Ireland, Rishi Sunak has said.

The prime minister told Sky News that Northern Ireland’s leaders should be focused on delivering the things that “matter” to people, not on “constitutional change”.

Mr Sunak is at Stormont where he met First Minister Michelle O’Neill following the agreement to restore power-sharing.
