Labour candidate will still stand in by-election after ‘disgraceful’ comments

Labour’s Rochdale by-election candidate will still stand, despite his remarks being branded “warped” and “disgraceful” by the Jewish community.

Senior shadow frontbencher Pat McFadden said Azhar Ali was ‘wrong’ to say Israel allowed the 7 October attack by Hamas.

There are fears his comments could further fuel hostility, but with the deadline for nominations closed, it is too late for the party to replace him.
