The chairman of the Conservative Party, Richard Holden MP, has blamed turnout being “significantly down” in part for the loss of the Kingswood and Wellingborough by-elections.
In Wellingborough, Labour overturned a majority of more than 18,000 to win the seat from the Tories, with a swing of 28.5% – the second highest of all time.
Mr Holden added that he wanted to see tax cuts to “win voters back” when “inflation falls further”.
