In his annual state-of-the-nation address, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said parliament is set to ratify Sweden’s membership of NATO later this month.
Hungary has been the last holdout on the long-awaited Swedish bid – a delay Orban’s party blames on what it calls unfounded claims by Stockholm that Budapest is undermining democracy.
This comes as Orban faces a test of his hold on power: A scandal over a pardon that’s already prompted Hungary’s president to resign.
