Assange extradition case puts journalism on trial as supporters fear last stand

Estimated read time 1 min read

Assange faces extradition to the US for espionage. Supporters argue he was exposing war crimes as a journalist. If convicted, he could face 175 years behind bars. The case has put relations between countries that are normally allies, Australia, the UK, and the United States, under a huge amount of strain. Amnesty International and members of Assange’s family believe that it’s not just Assange on trial, but journalism too.

Al Jazeera’s Neave Barker reports.
