China ‘certainly’ behind Ministry of Defence cyberattack, says Iain Duncan Smith

Iain Duncan Smith, the former Tory leader, has praised Sky News for reporting that China is understood to be behind a Ministry of Defence data leak.

The MP went on to say it is “certainly China who has been doing this”, adding that the issue is that the West is now “massively dependent on China”.

The government will not name the country involved.

A cyberattack on an MoD payroll system was carried out, with names and bank details of current army, Royal Navy and RAF personnel and some veterans exposed.

China has called the accusations “completely fabricated and malicious slanders”.
