The committee in Stockholm awarded this year’s prize for medicine jointly to a pair of US researchers. Victor Ambros and and Gary Ruvkun will share nearly a million euros for the discovery of microRNA. That’s a class of tiny molecules that play a crucial role in regulating how genes work.

The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine has been awarded 114 times to 227 Nobel Prize laureates between 1901 and 2023.
