Israel-Hamas War: UN stops short of calling for a ceasefire in Gaza

Estimated read time 2 min read

The resolution does not call for a suspension of hostilities. The US and Israel oppose a ceasefire because they believe it would only benefit Hamas.

During the UN Security Council vote, Russian ambassador Vassily Nebenzia accused the US of “resorting to all sorts of means of sabotaging the Security Council’s adoption of a decision on Gaza”.
