PM Rishi Sunak defends his handling of the economy and says migration levels still ‘far too high’

The prime minister has spoken to broadcasters after the news that the UK economy has contracted by 0.1% in the three months from September to July.

When asked about what happened to his pledge to grow the economy, Mr Sunak replied:

“Compared to the predictions at the beginning of the year, the economy has done better, and we’ve actually grown faster than our European neighbours like Germany, for example.”
