Beirut airstrike: Israel claims killing of Hezbollah top commander | DW News

Estimated read time 1 min read

Israel’s military says it has killed one of Hezbollah’s top commanders – Ibrahim Aqil – in a ‘targeted strike’ in Beirut.

The militant leader had a seven million dollar bounty on his head from the United States. Lebanese health officials say the strike killed 12 people and injured 30 others. It comes after Israel launched airstrikes against what it says was Hezbollah infrastructure in southern Lebanon. The Iran-backed militant group has fired dozens of projectiles into northern Israel after the group promised retaliation for the device explosions this week that killed more than 30 people.
