Colombia calls for international help in battle against wildfires amidst record temperatures

Colombia is appealing for international help in battling wildfires burning across the country. Hundreds of volunteers and firefighters have already joined forces to tackle the blazes. President Gustavo Petro has declared a natural disaster, unlocking additional funding for the firefighting effort. Record temperatures in many parts of Colombia and a lack of water have made it difficult to extinguish the flames. Petro has linked the heat and raging wildfires to climate change. And there’s only a slight chance of rain in the next few days.
