COVID-19: R number rises above 1 in sign of growing UK epidemic

The R number has risen above 1 for the first time since March, which indicates that COVID-19 cases are now growing exponentially across the country.

The latest estimate is between 1.0 and 1.2, which represents the number of people each person with #coronavirus goes on to infect.

Although the number of hospital admissions and deaths remain stable, data from other countries shows this could start to happen if the number of new cases keep rising.
