Shadow health secretary Wes Streeting says he “was not involved in the process” which Diane Abbott says has led to her being stopped from standing as a Labour candidate in the election.
Ms Abbott – Britain’s first black woman MP – told Sky News the party had barred her from standing in her Hackney North and Stoke Newington constituency.
Labour has not commented on the claim.
Mr Streeting was the first Labour MP to appear on Sky News following Ms Abbott’s claims.
She was suspended by the party more than a year ago after suggesting Jewish people did not experience racism in the same way other ethnic minorities do.
She later apologised for the comments.
