Centrist former prime minister Donald Tusk returns to the top job, ending eight years of right-wing nationalist rule. His comeback sets the stage for warmer relations with the European Union.

Tusk’s appointment comes after Poland’s former leader Mateusz Moravietski lost a vote of confidence in parliament. That loss has ended eight years of rule by the nationalist Law and Justice Party. Tusk is now expected to lead a coalition of pro-EU parties.
