Emphasis on ‘de-escalating’ protests on UK university campuses, says vice-chancellor

Sally Mapstone, the vice-chancellor of St Andrews University, recently met the Prime Minister to discuss a “de-escalation” of protests at UK university campuses over the war in Gaza.

She said: “This was really an opportunity for universities to express the seriousness of which we are taking cases of perceived or reported antisemitism on campus and recognising there has been an increase across the UK in this kind of reporting.

“We manifestly don’t want to see any incidents or the sort of activity that we’ve seen on US campuses, which is so distressing.”
