Finland to reopen two border crossings with Russia – but for how long? | DW News

Finland has announced it will reopen two crossings on its border with Russia.

In November, Helsinki shut all of its eight border crossings with Russia, after it accused Moscow of encouraging migrants from third countries to cross into Finland. Helsinki says this was in retaliation for its decision to join NATO. The Kremlin has denied that. The Council of Europe has asked Finland to ensure it keeps its doors open for migrants seeking protection.

The closures meant many Russian speakers living in Finland were cut off from relatives. DW’s Natalia Smolentceva met a family who were affected.

For more on this, we’re joined in the studio by Natalia Smolentceva, who filed the report.
