Concerns about the fate of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny are growing, after his allies say they have not been able to contact him for a week. Unconfirmed reports on Telegram news channels say that he could have been transferred to Moscow.

Officials at the prison colony where Navalny was serving a 19-year-term on extremism charges comfirmed he has been moved, but gave no futher details. The United States has expressed concern over Navalny’s whereabouts and called for his immediate release. The Kremlin has dismissed the US comments as “unacceptable meddling.”
