Indian Congress party release manifesto ahead of national election

The Congress party, India’s main opposition political group, releases its election manifesto ahead of the upcoming national election.

The party has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government of stifling democracy and crippling its campaign by freezing its bank accounts in a tax dispute.

India has announced that a six-week-long general election will start on 19 April, with most polls predicting a victory for Modi and his Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party.
