Three decades after Hindu mobs tore down a historic mosque, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi attends the consecration of a grand Hindu temple at the same site in a political move to boost his party ahead of a crucial national vote.

In 1992, Hindu mobs tore down the Babri mosque, claiming it was built by Muslim invaders on the ruins of a Ram temple, sparking nationwide riots that took nearly 2,000 lives.
