Labour wins first seat declared: Houghton and Sunderland South | Vote 2024

The first result is in – and Labour’s shadow education secretary Bridget Phillipson has won in Houghton and Sunderland South with a majority of 7,169 votes.

She has won her seat, with Reform UK coming second.

The full result is:

Bridget Phillipson, Labour – 18,837 votes
Sam Woods-Brass, Reform UK – 11,668 votes
Chris Burnicle, Conservative – 5,514 votes
Paul Edgeworth, Lib Dem – 2,290 votes
Richard Bradley, Green Party – 1,723 votes
