Nepali men return from Gulf States needing kidney transplants

For years, poverty has driven an illegal market in kidneys in Nepal with agents targeting poor areas to encourage people to part with their organs.

Now, poverty has led to yet another kidney related health crisis.

Tens of thousands of young, otherwise healthy young men travel to the Gulf States to work every year, only to return needing kidney transplants. Some scientists suggest it’s due to heat exposure and severe dehydration.
