Stubb or Haavisto: Finnish voters to choose their new president | DW News

Estimated read time 1 min read

Voters in Finland are preparing to elect a new president. They are choosing between Alexander Stubb, an ex-prime minister from the centre right, and Pekko Haavisto, a green former foreign minister. They emerged as the two front-runners from the first round two weeks ago: Stubb got 27.2 percent of the votes, Haavisto reached 25.8 percent. Both of them centered their campaign largely around the security threat that is posed by the Nordic nation’s neighbor Russia.
