Russia has extended military drills near Ukraine’s northern borders sparking fears an invasion could be more likely.

As tensions heightened, diplomatic activity to avert war in Europe continued, with Russian President Vladimir Putin and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron holding a two-hour phone call.
