In Ukraine, thousands more civilians have fled Russia’s renewed ground offensive on the northeastern front. Kyiv has sent reinforcements to the border of the Kharkiv region where there are intense battles with artillery and mortar fire. Russia says it has captured several villages. Ukraine’s military chief admitted the situation is difficult but said his forces are doing everything to hold defensive lines and positions.
