UN Security Council approves resolution for cease-fire in Gaza | DW News

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has canceled the visit of an Israeli delegation to Washington. This follows the United States’ decision not to veto a UN Security Council resolution demanding a truce between Israel and Hamas.

The resolution calls for an immediate humanitarian cease-fire in Gaza for the remainder of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan – and for the release of hostages. It passed 14-0 after the US abstained, thus not using its veto. Washington has previously vetoed three ceasefire resolutions. The Security Council has been divided over the Israel-Hamas war since Hamas’s October 7 terror attacks.
