The execution of a German citizen in Iran has sparked outrage in Germany. Chancellor Olaf Scholz has condemned the killing, branding it a “scandal”. Berlin has summoned the Iranian envoy and re-called the German representative in Tehran.

Jamshid Sharmahd was convicted on terror charges last year, in what Germany and international rights groups denounced as a ‘sham trial’. His family are now demanding proof of his death, the return of his body and severe punishment for the Islamic regime.
