A wave of major elections set for 2024 could paradoxically lead to a setback for democracy around the world, one international watchdog is warning. Mark Malloch-Brown, president of the Open Society Foundation, told DW that elections from the US to Europe and India will put the resiliency of democratic institutions to the test, as more than two billion people go to the polls this year. “This year, we could end up with a record number of elections and less democracy,” he told DW’s Editor-in-Chief, Manuela Kasper-Claridge.
