Iran’s attack on Israel has raised questions over its military capabilities and its potential readiness for an escalated conflict in the region. The country – which has been under international sanctions for years – has been suffering from high inflation and low growth.
But over the past few months, it’s also been showing increasing readiness to flex its military muscles, carrying out attacks on tankers near the Strait of Hormuz and reinforcing its support for a range of militant groups including Hamas and Hezbollah.
DW Business speaks with Djavad Salehi-Isfahani, Professor of Economics at Virginia Tech and co-author of the book ‘How Sanctions Work: Iran and the Impact of Economic Warfare.’
